Complex technology projects require testing – lots of it – in order to avoid gaffes (and outright disaster). QA engineers work to execute testing plans and goals to ensure systems work properly. Tasks include the design and implementation of testing procedures, interaction with support staff, categorizing bug fixes and enhancement requests, and reviewing bug reports.

Education Requirements
QA engineers must have problem-solving and organizational skills, along with knowledge of the underlying technology of the systems being tested. This position can incorporate a range of experience and education levels. Junior QA positions can be good entry-level opportunities, while more senior positions require knowledge of bug-tracking software and the specific products the company is building.
While an IT degree isn’t an absolute requirement for entry-level QA positions, it’s always helpful and opens up pathways to higher-level QA positions and other IT career paths.

I don't quite see this info helpful. I am a QA engineer - IT manager. I have a computer science master's from one of the top 10 engineering grad schools. And got straigt into QA industry after grad school - before that had software engineer expereinces. What I have hired and am looking for is somebody who can code & test and we pay much more than most of the non-it jobs posted in this site. All depends on what company and how high level the company expects.. but the candidate in this info is barely a QA analyst to me which I don't need in my team. you'd better not apply as a QA engineer if you only meet this description written here. Junior or intern QA analyst might work for you.
