After looking at the comments people are making about global warming being a natural event and just ignore it and it will be all right I will say this. We have ways scientifically of measuring CO2 and other green house gases going back millions of years. The build up in green house gases over the last several decades is unprecedented. The science behind what's causing this is quite clear. If you think all this is a myth I dare you to live on or near the east coast. Current models are predicting a rise in the Oceans of 40 or more meters and oh by the way those models are thought to be conservative by many climatologists. In the PBS Frontline program "Heat" many of the top scientists say that we may have only 10 years till the earth hits the tipping point. Once this point is hit the cataclysmic effects of global warming are unstoppable. All this doesn't mean we should go around screaming the sky is falling like chicken little. No! We need to make our energy and other decisions effecting global warming based on valid science and not wishful thinking. Ideas like clean coal sound good but in reality are a myth spread by the coal industry to keep people using this very dirty energy technology so the coal industry can keep banking bucks. Ethanol based fuels are not carbon neutral as is generally thought to be the case. They have a positive carbon footprint. Solar and wind technologies are a good idea and improving all the time, but studies done at Cal Tech forecast say that they will not be able to produce as much power as everyone is hoping. So what can we do you ask? We must build nuke power plants. We must do this right a way to replace coal fired plants. The technology works and is safe in spite of the panic attacks people had over 3 Mile Island etc. The French generate about 90% of their energy from nukes. They locked down a good design and didn't try to reinvent the wheel each time they built one. They have a way of storing their waste by embedding it in glass logs so that it can be stored safely. Americans are going to have to change their ideas that cars(gas powered) are the way to get around. Behind coal fired electrical generation the gas powered car is the biggest CO2 polluter. In large urban areas autos of any kind are a very inefficient way of getting large numbers of people around. We need to build transportation systems that are clean and efficient. Those of us that live in these cities would welcome not having to wait for hours in our cars going less than 50 miles to get to work while we generate CO2 that will make the Earth unlivable for our children and grand children. Keep your head up and believe that we can fix things but we need to quit ignoring this problem and listening to people who are part of the Fossil fuel industry and who's only agenda is greed!
